Decorative Plasterwork and Cornicing

Cornices, ceiling roses, panel mouldings and period details — supplied, installed, repaired and matched to existing profiles.

Restored ceiling with decorative plaster cornice

Quick answer

Can you match an existing cornice?

In most cases, yes. Missing or damaged sections of cornice can be matched by taking a profile from the existing moulding and either sourcing a matching stock profile or having a section run or cast to match. The new section is then fixed, jointed and finished so it reads as one continuous moulding.

Installation and restoration

We install new fibrous and cast plaster cornices, coving, ceiling roses, dado and picture rails, panel mouldings and niches, and restore original decorative plasterwork in period homes. Where paint build-up has blurred the detail of an old cornice, it can be carefully cleaned back to reveal the original profile.

Plaster mouldings are fixed with adhesives and mechanical fixings appropriate to the weight, then mitred, jointed and filled so that corners and returns are crisp.

Commercial and hospitality settings

Decorative plaster is also used in hotels, restaurants, members’ clubs and residential development show units, where feature ceilings, coffers and moulded panelling set the character of a space. We coordinate these with lighting, ceiling services and joinery details.

FAQ

Decorative Plaster questions

Can’t see your question? Contact us or call 07377 741264.

Do you work on listed buildings?

Yes. Work to listed buildings may need listed building consent. We work with owners, architects and conservation officers and use traditional materials where specified.

Is fibrous plaster better than polyurethane coving?

Fibrous and cast plaster give sharper detail, can be repaired in the same material and are appropriate for period properties. Lightweight polyurethane mouldings are cheaper and quicker, but do not have the same crispness or authenticity.
